Course Structure
The PGCE program is a structured, practice-driven 10-month journey built on three foundational pillars that shape confident, classroom-ready teachers:
Theory Classes
Strengthening Subject Mastery & Pedagogy
Across three days a week, trainees participate in focused theory sessions that build academic and pedagogical foundations, including:
- Advanced training in English, Mathematics, Science, Social Science, and Theatre.
- Lesson planning and instructional design.
- Assessment and evaluation techniques.
- Technology-enabled teaching practices.
- Child development, educational psychology, and classroom management.
This curriculum prepares trainees to confidently teach at least two subjects across Classes I–X and across different educational boards.
Practical Training
Hands-On, Real-Time Classroom Exposure
A key strength of the PGCE program is its immersive practical training conducted three days a week in DAV schools across Chennai, based on trainee convenience and accessibility. This includes:
- Guided, supervised, and independent teaching sessions.
- Teaching practice across subjects and grade levels.
- Exposure to real classroom dynamics, student behaviour, and everyday teaching challenges.
This continuous learning-by-doing approach builds practical competence and classroom readiness.
One-on-One Mentorship
Continuous Guidance & Professional Development
Each trainee is paired with an experienced DAV mentor teacher who provides:
- Individual feedback and performance reviews.
- Guidance in classroom management and professional behaviour.
- Targeted support to refine teaching skills.
- Emotional and academic support throughout the program.
This mentor-led approach creates a structured, nurturing, growth-oriented learning experience.
